Att world phone refers to the phone being able to use 3g in all countries via international gsm and hsdpa roaming, unlike other carriers phones in the us which usually did not support operating fully outside the us. People bought Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, and S5 over the HTC counterparts not because the phones were better. They were clearly inferior in every way to HTC. They bought the Galaxys for the simple reason that they still had a removable battery.
Samsung Galaxy didn't start becoming popular until after HTC decided to make all of their phones with non removable batteries. I bet HTC thought they would front run the industry and be the first Android smartphone manufacturer to comply with the government's wishes to make phones with non removable batteries. They paid dearly for their mistake. Samsung waited 2-3 years before making their phones with non removable batteries and as you can see those were the years Samsung ate HTC's dominant market share.
I sold this phone as the captivate on AT&T back in the day and the 4g on sprint with the keyboard.. man I feel old

I rooted my S1 vibrant and doubled the speed to 2ghz 😂 also installed MIUI rom which was updated nightly for bugs ( now known as Xiaomi) I spent days modifying and tinkering with it, my S1 was probably my favorite phone.
The modding community was huge when bootloaders were unlocked back in the day 😢
The actually first one is the Galaxy S GT-i9000 which has a physical home button. Everything else is a carrier version or some other change.
