Punjab Govt Directs Crackdown on Power Theft

The Government of Punjab is providing 300 units of free electricity every month to residents, thus helping reduce electricity theft. Further, to curb power theft, the state government has ordered an investigation by the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL).

The offering of free electricity is putting considerable financial pressure on the Punjab government. As a result, a thorough investigation into electricity theft is currently in progress. To date, there have been 4,425 reported incidents of electricity theft, with inspections conducted on 81,262 electricity connections across various zones. The highest number of theft cases has been recorded in Patiala.
