The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan, has created a Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) to help reduce the number of road accidents, which sadly claim many lives. This force is tasked with preventing accidents, providing immediate medical aid to those injured, and monitoring high-risk areas that are susceptible to road incidents.

These districts were placed in the Red Zone

In view of road accidents, the Punjab government has placed five districts in the red zone. These districts include Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

The SSF is set to oversee 5,500 km (approx.) of roadway. To aid in this effort, the force has been equipped with advanced vehicles, comprising 116 Toyota Hilux and 28 Scorpios. Additionally, there are around 5,000 personnel actively stationed in the field.

Personnel are being trained

All personnel of the SSF are currently undergoing training before their deployment to ensure they can effectively carry out their responsibilities and support the government’s goal of reducing road accidents. The training covers topics such as providing first aid to accident victims and offering timely health services to protect lives.

After the formation of the force, there has been a 25 percent reduction in road accidents. Not only this, the number of people losing their lives in road accidents has reduced by 45.5 percent.

Audit to achieve the target

CM Mann has set a goal to reduce road accident deaths by 50%, and initiatives are currently in progress to reach this target. Locations identified as high-risk for accidents are being designated as black spots and are receiving essential repairs. Furthermore, the state government has ordered an audit to identify these black spots and ensure prompt action is taken for their remediation.
